Degerby Igor Museum

Welcome to the Degerby Igor Museum!

At our museum you can learn more about the exciting period in Finnish history, when Soviet leased an area of 1000 km² from Finland. The leased area of Porkkala was only 20 km away from our capital city Helsinki and was a constant threat to the independence of Finland for 11 years. A military base was built in Porkkala to defend the Soviet union and Leningrad from an attack from the west. Find out more about the lease period, how peoples lives were affected on both the Finnish and the Soviet side of the border. We know a lot more now and we get new information continuously.
